SUSO Funds Kidscape Workshop with The Becket School

Did you know that SUSO means Stand Up, Stand Out? For us at SUSO it seems a natural fit to work alongside organisations that fit our ethos and values. That’s why we’re proud to be supporting Kidscape, a charity dedicated to supporting young people, parents and carers with practical support, training and advice to challenge bullying and protect the lives of young people.

Becket School visit

We recently visited The Becket School in Nottingham with Kidscape, where we funded another delivery of the ZAP in schools resilience program for pupils in years 7 and 8. The ZAP in schools workshop has several goals including;

  • Raising self-esteem which focuses on teaching young people to identify their own unique strengths and skills
  • Exploring bullying roles and the types of behaviour associated with these terms
  • Assertiveness skills through understanding the difference between aggression, assertiveness and passivity
  • Positive body language, identifying the impact of positive body language in relation to being assertive
  • Raising awareness of cyber bullying and of the safety risks when using the internet

The feedback from the students was phenomenal, “We were able to express our feelings and talk about bullying”, “The session made me feel more confident” said some participants from year 7 at The Becket School.

Interactive workshops

Workshops delivered by Kidscape are designed to be interactive for the students with a range of topics covered and different ways of communicating work visually. During the sessions children are able to express their feelings and think about the impacts of bullying behaviour as well as taking away some information and resources to support young people with bullying.

Kath Hames, Head of Partnerships at Kidscape said – “We’re excited to be delivering these important sessions with funding from SUSO and look forward to working with them more in the coming year. Thank you team SUSO.”

SUSO refreshments

As well as the delivery of the ZAP workshops, we brought along some of our school compliant, fruity, fizzy drinks and branded stationery for the students to enjoy. SUSO comes in five delicious flavours with 60% fruit juice in every can. Even better, each can counts towards one of your five a day! So whilst the students were taking part in the ZAP workshops, they were able to enjoy a delicious drink as well, winner!

Nelly Edwards, SUSO brand manager said – “As a brand that is predominantly sold in secondary schools and colleges across England and Wales, we love getting into schools with our drinks especially when it’s to support worthy causes such as Kidscape’s ZAP workshops.”

We look forward to funding more sessions with Kidscape in 2023. For more information on Kidscape and the workshops they offer click here.
